Now that fall is officially here, it’s time to enjoy some warm, fall treats. I’ve got some great recipe ideas that would be perfect for fall parties, Just Ask! for the recipe.
Now, as promised in last week’s Report, here’s my mother’s Apple Crisp recipe:
Ingredients
- 3 cups cranberries (I use dried cranberries and dried tart cherries, too!)
- 1 lb. sweet pears – peeled and sliced (I don’t always use pears but it’s a sweet touch)
- 1 lb. Gravenstein apples – peeled and sliced. (If you can’t find Gravenstein, simply use a tart apple like a Granny smith. It all works!)
- ¾ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ cup sugar
*I also squeeze ½ lemon all over the mixture. This is the R touch!
Ingredients for the Crumbly Topping (the best part!)
- ¾ cup sifted unbleached flour
- ¾ cup dark brown sugar
- ¾ cup oatmeal
- ¾ cup unsalted butter (Make sure it’s coarse and lumpy)
- Stir in ¾ cup chopped pecans. (This last time I made this recipe I didn’t have pecans but I had some trail mix and it was delicious!)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix the cranberries, pears, apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and lemon ingredients together and pour into a buttered baking dish.
- For the topping, mix the flour, brown sugar and oatmeal together; then, cut in the butter and pecans.
- Pour topping over the fruit and bake for 35-40 minutes until bubbly.
Enjoy!
