Robin Laub, a Life Stylist

Top 10 Places to Visit in Kenya

My safari series wouldn’t be complete without giving you a glimpse of what I recently discovered in the beautiful country of Kenya.

The moment we landed in Nairobi my demeanor completely changed. No longer was I a highly energetic, organizationally driven life stylist. Frankly, I think I was abducted by the spiritual gods of Africa. Ha! I unplugged entirely (sorry to those who had to wait two weeks to hear from me!) and totally immersed into the African culture. I became African in a zen kind-of-way and almost became a third wife of a Masai tribal leader. But that’s a story for another Report. Ha! Jambo!

When it comes to wildlife viewing, Eastern Africa takes the prize! Here are my top 10 places to visit while on safari in Kenya:

1. Nairobi National Park – rhino’s and Cape buffaloes grazed right before our eyes.

2. Giraffe Manor – giraffes literally peeked their heads and necks through the windows of this lovely lodge.

3. Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage – baby ellie’s galore! So sweet!

4. Chyulu Hills National Park – lodging at the Ol Donyo Wuas overlooking an elephant water hole was the quintessential African setting.

5. Amboseli National Park – chasing an ostrich on the dry lake bed was a highlight.

6. Masai village – home to a beautiful and happy tribe of people who are proud of their culture and lifestyle.

7. Lake Victoria – landing directly in front of the Rusinga Island Lodge left everyone speechless.

8. Masai Mara National Reserve – migration is the ideal time to view thousands of wildebeests, gazelles, and zebras crossing from Tanzania into Kenya. One will truly get a taste for the Serengeti Ecosystem in all its’ glory by this incredible crossing.

9. A hot air balloon ride over the Mara – an uplifting and memorable experience.

And my favorite place to visit while on safari in Kenya is...

10. ON SAFARI WITH HOWARD SAUNDERS – the Ker and Downey private tented camps were above and beyond any type of glamping with flushable toilets and hot showers! The gregarious guides, the cultural conversations, the merriment of the Masai men were more than our dreams could ever have imagined.

So, what are you waiting for? Kenya should be next on your travel list. From what to pack to must-see locations, I can assist you with all the planning details. Just ask! You can view photos from my safari on my Facebook page--let me know what you think!
