Robin Laub, a Life Stylist

The Allure of an Art Gallery

I’m still guilty of not visiting a museum or an art gallery in person as of yet, but I will soon! And hopefully, you will too.

As your adventure stylist, I’d like to suggest several art galleries in San Francisco that you can view in person or establish a virtual call with. Remember you can still buy art without seeing it in person. That was my pandemic indulgence. Ha!

No two art galleries are the same. They each have a unique story to tell — that’s why I think they should all be visited like you’re on a true exploration. Here are four of my favorite San Francisco galleries:

Paul Thiebaud Gallery

This gallery is nestled on Chestnut Street, which is within walking distance from North Beach. Grab a cappuccino at Caffe Trieste and head over to view some beautiful pieces by Wayne Thiebaud, a Californian painter, or other works by Stephen Coyle and Grace Munakata. Contact the knowledgeable Kelly Purcell, the Director of the gallery, to set up an appointment either in person or virtually.

Catherine Clark Gallery

The San Francisco Design center neighborhood has loads of art to be seen — and to be bought! Check out Catherine Clark’s gallery on Utah street. She shows works by artists Katherine Vetne, Stephanie Syjuco, Al Farrow, Wanxin Zhang, and Deborah Oropallo. What attracts me to this gallery are of course the talented artists but that it also exhibits beautiful dance and music performances. Please contact the owner, Catherine, who is incredibly approachable and intelligent.

Hackett Mill Gallery

When visiting the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) make time for a visit to this gallery. If you’re a fond art lover of David Park, Manuel Neri, Joan Brown, Richard Diebenkorn, and Raimonds Staprans, look no further. Francis Mill, the gallery owner, is so much fun to work with and has an impeccable memory of stories about each of the artists he represents that you’ll just NEED to buy a piece.

Dolby Chadwick Gallery

This gallery is located in the heart of Union Square so while you’re shopping, save some time to visit here. The owner, Lisa Chadwick, is full of life and truly loves what she does. Some of my favorite artists in this gallery are Stephen De Staebler, Danae Mattes, Lisa Russell, Terry St. John, and John DiPaolo.

While you’re on your art adventure, please say hello to these gallery owners and directors for me as they have become some of my very good friends. And if you’d like me to go on a studio visit with you, Just Ask!

Happy viewing!
