Robin Laub, a Life Stylist

Winter Adventure

Golfing has become a part of my daily and weekly life. It’s difficult and frustrating at times, but when playing with a group of great golfers, nothing else seems to matter. I appreciate the good weather here in the Bay Area and what better way to enjoy it than by playing golf?

I previously wrote about The Hay in Pebble Beach, which is a great place to practice your short game. But what I didn’t mention was the cute new restaurant that just opened up this fall called, Hay’s Place. It’s within walking distance from the putting green and the short 9-hole golf course and it’s DELICIOUS!

Here are a few of my recommendations:

1) Cocktails are a must. Start by ordering one of their fancy cocktail concoctions. After I birdied most of the holes (ha!) I ordered the “Seal the Deal” signature margarita with reposado tequila and Big Sur salt on the rim. Ai yi yi! So good. They also have cocktails with fun names like Rollin’ in the Hay, Hay Mary, Hay Good Lookin’ and Hay’s Tee Decision. I didn’t try them, so you’ll need to have to experience these yourself. Let me know which ones you like!

2) As for the appetizers, I’m not big on Mexican food, BUT this fare is exquisite. One of my favorites is the Roasted Elotes. Yum, yum, yum. It’s a fancy corn on the cob with a spicy aioli that will have you drinking at least two Hay Mary’s. Ha! If you like shrimp, try the Camarones a la Parrilla, which is grilled shrimp on a skewer with herbs and butter. The Tin Can Nachos also looked amazing!

The great part about this restaurant is that you can see all of the golfers duff their shots right before your eyes and not feel so bad when that exact shot happens to you on the course. Ha! The backdrop of Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula is absolutely stunning while you sip and dine. Next time I plan on trying the dinner menu — and of course, I’ll report back.

Remember to make reservations. Walk-ins are rare. It’s also a great event space! If you’d like more information about this great hot spot, Just Ask!
