Robin Laub, a Life Stylist

Calling All the Single People!

For all the single women and men who are online dating, the new normal is to go on FaceTime Dates (aka FTDs). As your adventure stylist (Dating is an adventure! Ha!), I have terrific tips for a successful FTD. And for those who don’t have an iPhone, you can also use these tips on Zoom for your virtual date.

  • Fully charge your iPhone. FaceTime calls use a lot of power, so keep your phone on the charger the entire FTD.

  • No need to dress up. Most everyone has to obey the shelter-in-place rules, which means it’s acceptable to be casually dressed for that first FTD. If you need some outfit ideas, Just Ask!

  • Be your natural fun self. For women, zero make-up is totally fine but maybe dab on a little bit of lip gloss right on the middle of your bottom lip for some shine. Perhaps put a sheer tinted moisturizer on and some concealer under the eyes. And spritz your face right before the call with Le Mieux, Iso-Cell Recovery Solution for a nice dewy glow. (or contact Rituals Aesthetic Skincare!) For men, just wear a hip dark-colored t-shirt. The unshaven look is “in!” The hipster look is hot!

  • Break the ice. Pour a glass of something special and have it in your hand so that you can toast to your FTD right from the start. Always use a fun and fashionable flute, wine glass or cocktail glass. No red solo cups!

  • If you’ve run out of things to talk about, introduce your dog or cat to your new friend.

  • Make the conversation light and fun. It’s a good idea to have a few fun questions prepared just in case. Make sure you’re listening but also getting to ask questions yourself.

  • If you’d like another FTD, schedule before the end of the call. If not, say bye-bye! Ha!

  • Last but not least, lighting and a great background are key. You want to look your very best, right? Maybe sit in front of a beautiful piece of art or in your favorite room. Having a window or light source in front of you is best. Do a trial run to see how things are looking before you dial in.

Good luck!
