Pizza Pot Pie

Don’t forget — February 9th is National Pizza Day! And although many of my followers have been sending me photos of their amazing pizza creations, I’d like to share one of my favorite recipes for some extra yummy inspiration.

This pizza recipe is more like a baked meal, but who said one can’t be creative on National Pizza Day? Not me! Ha! Looking for more fun pizza ideas? Just Ask!

Ingredients

2 pounds hot Italian sausage

2 pounds ground beef

4 1/2 cups of your mama’s or papa’s favorite tomato sauce (If your fam doesn’t have a recipe, you can buy this at the store, too!)

2 cups ricotta cheese (if you know how to make your own, even better!)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

3/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

2 eggs

Ground pepper to taste

4 cups grated mozzarella cheese (I always use extra!)

Pizza dough from your favorite store (usually found in the frozen food section, or ask your favorite pizzeria if they will sell you some of their dough) or make your own!

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sauté sausage and ground beef until brown. Drain and stir in tomato sauce.

Mix the cheeses together, 1/2 cup of parsley, 1 egg, and ground pepper.

In a 9 x 13” baking dish, spread half of the meat mixture (this sounds like making lasagne!), spread with 1/2 of cheese mixture, and spread with 2 cups of mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle the rest of the parsley and repeat.

Roll out 3/4 quarters of the dough to 1/3 inch and place on top of the pizza mixture. Tuck in on all sides.

Beat the other egg with some water and brush this on top of the crust.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the top is golden brown. Let cool, slice, and enjoy!

Now you’re ready to dive on into National Pizza Day!
