The Best of Block Island

Labor Day is almost here — are you ready? If you’re in the Rhode Island area, it’s time to make those ferry ride reservations to Block Island for some good eating and drinking!

Here are a few suggestions that will please the palate. If you’d like some more suggestions for a Block Island adventure, Just Ask

Persephone’s Kitchen

Before heading out on a hike to the Mohegan Bluffs (photo above), I recommend stopping here to grab a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The line can be long but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how tasty the food is. They have baked goodies and more for your belly. It’s worth the wait!

Three Sisters

After breakfast at Persephone’s walk over to this cute abode and order sandwiches to take with you on your hike or beach excursion. They’re only open from 11 am-2 pm and at 11 am the line is already forming. This place is THAT good!

The Spring House Hotel

This is a romantic and energetic place for having a cocktail or beverage of your choice while sitting on an Adirondack chair overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The food, well, that’s not so good. Ha! But the ambiance makes up for it —especially when a musical duo is strumming their guitars. It’s also a fabulous hotel to stay at and it’s within walking distance (uphill!) from the ferry. Reserve the corner room overlooking the ocean in the newer Annex building, the Mott House. D.I.V.I.N.E.

Winfield’s

This is by far (in my opinion, of course!) one of the tastiest restaurants on Corn Neck Road. The décor is dark inside and the food is exquisite. Try the duck confit. Yum!

The Oar

After a long day at the beach or a very long hike around the island, drop in at The Oar for a drink or two. It’s located on the 1661 Inn property at the Boat Basin in New Harbor overlooking Great Salt Pond. Try the Block Island mudslide. It’s a big hit!

Enjoy the views!
