Why did I launch my own lifestyle business? It’s a question I’ve been asked many times, so I thought I’d blog about it.
Well, to be frank, it happened in a natural way. For years, my sister was constantly pushing me to go out on my own to provide lifestyle services, but it was just never a good time. Then, two years ago the stars aligned and the wheels started rolling. But first, I needed to do some research.
I started by meeting with friends, colleagues and acquaintances that were sole proprietors. I asked numerous questions on how they went about their launch, the type of obstacles to watch out for and what processes I needed to have in place. From their answers, I performed the initial steps for starting my own company. I interviewed 10 website designers to create my website. The winning designer and Creative Director extraordinaire was and still is, Mark Elster of eye580 Interactive. His wit and wisdom have taken me far, let alone his innate creative ability. And that’s how RobinLaub.com was born!
As my "baby steps" approach began to unfold, I decided to use some professional marketing advice and tap into social media as a marketing tool. This was when I learned how to navigate throughout my website and build email database groups with a stylish email marketing solution called myemma.
My, oh my, did myemma.com teach me a thing or two! In fact, I participated in my 1st webinar, during which, silly me pressed this little hand button during the discussion and immediately a virtual myemma staff member responded with, "Hey Robin - you had your hand virtually raised, can we help???" Oops, nope! I was just being my inquisitive self and wondering what the different prompts were. You have to learn somehow! ;)
Bottom line is, you can do this, too! With a few helping hands, a positive attitude and a little know-how you can achieve something great. It takes confidence and an open mind to move forward, and why not? Life is too short to just sit around and wait for things to happen. Get up off your tush and make a push! The geeky part of me loves to freshen my mind with new thoughts and ideas. It's a great thing!
