Robin Laub, a Life Stylist

NYC Art Scene

Take it from me, your adventure stylist—when in New York, you must visit at least one museum or art gallery.

I have a new museum in NYC to share with you. And the name is exactly that; The New Museum! It’s located in the Bowery in the Lower East Village and is currently featuring Sarah Lucas, a British artist who uses critical humor in her artwork. Check out her over-the-knee boots sculpture in the window. I first met Sarah at the opening of her exhibition at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco called Good Muse, which was her first major exhibition in the U.S.

After exploring The New Museum, head over to Wooster Street in Soho to view the Jeffrey Deitch Contemporary Gallery. Grab a delectable snack at La Mercerie on Howard after stopping at one of my favorite boutiques, Agnes b., which is right across the street from the French cafe.

If you’re in midtown, I also recommend visiting the exquisite Marlborough Gallery to view various exhibitions such as the one I saw in October of the enormous works by Spanish artist, Juan Genovés. His artwork will take your breath away. In Chelsea, don’t miss their sister gallery, the Marlborough Contemporary, which will be featuring Davina Semo, a Bay Area emerging woman artist, in January 2019. Her fascinating ball bearing and bell art work should not be missed! You can also view her work at the Jessica Silverman Gallery in San Francisco.

And, if you haven’t visited The Whitney Museum of American Art, be sure to check out their permanent collection in this Meatpacking location and stop at another favorite Parisian boutique of mine called ba&sh on Bleeker. Tip: If you’re a member of the Director’s Circle at SFMOMA, your admittance is free to the Whitney.

If you’re still in the mood for some more fabulous art, there’s always the MOMA and The Met. But, just be sure you have enough time to explore.

Be inspired!
