Date Ideas

One of my devoted readers recently asked me to help him decide on a fun date night idea for his sweetie. A few of the suggestions I gave him for the San Francisco Bay Area are below. For those of you that live outside of this area, I recommend reading the Arts and Leisure section of your local magazine or newspaper. Or, look online for weekend highlights in your city or town. If you need help figuring out how to locate upcoming attractions, Just Ask! There’s always something special to discover, and who doesn’t love going out on the town now and again instead of staying home and watching, “Designated Survivor” from your laptop? Ha! (I do love that though!)

Idea 1) Take a Hike

No, this doesn’t mean break up with your girlfriend or dude! Ha! Hike to Alamere Falls at Point Reyes National Seashore. It’s best to start at the Palomarin Trailhead, and from there you follow the Coast trail for about 4.5 miles until you hit the falls. Round trip is 8.8 miles. Note: there’s an unofficial trail to get down to the falls, which saves a lot of time but does require scaling some rocks! Look out for a pile of sticks and follow the blue arrows after passing the second lake to not miss the turnoff. Be safe!

Get to the trailhead early as the parking fills up fast, especially on a Saturday. Bring plenty of water and healthy snacks. Also, if you want to climb down to the beach and see the waterfall from below, try to plan a time to hike when it will be low tide. From San Francisco it’s about an hour and 15 minute drive. If you don’t have a car, just rent one for the day!

After the beautiful falls hike and the magnitude of selfies and boomerangs, head over to Hog Island Oyster Company for some of the freshest oysters in the area (don’t forget to make a reservation, since it fills up fast!). And don’t forget that champagne pairs perfectly with oysters. A votre santé!

Idea 2) Walk Under the Moonlight

Visit the Bruce Munro light installations at Villa Montalvo called, “Stories in Light.” There are seven astonishing light exhibitions sprinkled around the fabulous property. You can also grab a cocktail from one of the several pop-up bars that border the installations. Walk arm in arm and enjoy the peace and joy of this creative landscape. This is a must-see! But hurry, it ends on March 17, 2019.

Idea 3) See a Flick

Locate one of those cool movie theaters with decadent lounge chairs (don’t fall asleep!), a full bar and an appetizer station. My suggestions in San Francisco are AMC Kabuki Theatre and Alamo Drafthouse. South of San Francisco, try out ShowPlace Icon Theatre in Mountain View. A movie, champagne and popcorn, who wouldn’t like that?

If these suggestions sound great, but you don’t have a date, go alone or with a friend. You never know who you’ll meet when you’re out and about having fun. Or, go online and find a date. If you need help setting up an online dating profile, Just Ask! No, really, I can help! Ha!
