Thinking of taking a Bay Area staycation to safely get out of the house? Head into San Francisco for some exercise and some good eats! As your adventure stylist, I’ve got plenty of ideas.
First Stop
This isn’t really a hike, but more of a .4 mile jaunt straight uphill to view the most spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay. Marin Headlands Slacker Ridge Hiking Trail includes the entire city — the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island, and of course, the Pacific Ocean. It’s a magical and breathtaking view. Most definitely the best I’ve ever seen of San Francisco from above and way better than viewing it from an airplane. Don’t forget to bring a bottle of champagne and celebrate with your sweetie or with friends and family. Make sure to snap a selfie with the bridge in the background!
Second Stop
After taking in all of that beauty and enjoying that somewhat of a hike, drive down the hill from the headlands and grasp more majestic views as you travel over the Golden Gate Bridge and head to North Beach or NB, as the locals call it. Call ahead and order the coal-fired New York pizza from Tony’s Pizza. It’s just one size and it’s huge for three people. Grab a bottle of cab at Coit Liquors, pick up your pizza, and head to Washington Park to spread your blankets down and relax (don’t forget to bring your own cups, napkins, and plates). Mangia!
Third Stop
Need something sweet after that savory pizza? Walk down the street from Washington Park and wait in line at Victoria Pastry. The princess cake that they are known for is delish. But make sure to try the carrot cake and cannoli’s, too. Oh, and maybe a Napoleon. Nom nom nom! Ha!
Fourth Stop
Get those hiking thighs ready again for a steep climb up to Hyde Street from Columbus Avenue. Stop at some point and see Alcatraz island pop into view. It’s amazing!
Keep climbing and breathing until you hit Hyde and then roll down to The Buena Vista Cafe for their famous Irish coffee. Tell them not to skimp on the whipped cream! And just so you know, these babies are potent!
