I have a confession to make. Wardrobe consulting and personal shopping with my fabulous clients cannot be more fun. In fact, they don’t even feel like work!
Recently, a spirited, 80-year-old client of mine (that's her in the picture) asked me to watch a Jane Fonda movie called, All Together. She wanted me to view all of Jane’s outfits in the movie, as this is the look she wanted to emulate. She said she used to wear the same type of clothes that Jane wore in the movie and that she wanted to switch up her current wardrobe and wear those outfits again. I just love her! She has so much spunk and vigor and is incredibly bright, too…Stanford professor, author, and many more accolades. All of my clients give me such delight and make my (not a) job so much more pleasant.
Anyway, so back to the Jane Fonda movie. This movie was spoken in French with English sub-titles. My client had no idea that I LOVE hearing and speaking French. So for me, yet again, this was not a job. I absolutely fell in love with the movie and completely forgot about taking notes of what Jane Fonda was wearing!!! Haha! That in itself is funny but no, seriously this movie…moooved me.
I ended up watching it again and taking meticulous notes of Jane’s style with her black, charcoal gray, brown and olive green colors she beautifully sashayed in. Jane’s style is a classic, clean and somewhat hip look and I can see why my client was inspired by it. And can I tell you this? Jane Fonda’s French accent as a Parisian was impeccable. I was in awe of her French-speaking accent after of course; I scrutinized all the details of her casual, chic attire.
Now that I’ve done my research, I can’t wait to go shopping with my client! To save her time, it's important that I prioritize which items are of utmost importance. No time for wasting time!
Normally, I come equipped with a bottle of water, some fruit and a granola bar so that my client is well-hydrated and nourished while shopping and trying on clothes. This shopping is serious business! "No fainting allowed in the dressing room."
So you see, wardrobe consulting and personal shopping is all about the individual. It’s not about “Robin’s style”; it’s about enhancing my client’s current style and giving it a bit more energy in places that might need a bit more boost. This is not a job…it’s my passion.
Would you like me to take you shopping to update your style? Or maybe you have a trip coming up and have no clue what to pack? Just ask!
Neiman’s, here we come!
