Before you head out on your next big adventure, I’ve created some important tips to help you prepare. As your adventure stylist, I’m always here for you. Have some questions? Just Ask!
Besides the basic packing of clothes and essentials, I also do the following before heading out of town:
Advise your bank and credit card company of future foreign credit card use.
Have the post office to hold your mail.
Advise your home alarm company of your absence.
Arrange for the care of your pets.
Re-set the sprinklers for your lawn and plants.
Bring in or cover all outdoor furniture cushions and pillows.
Set up a timed lighting system indoors and outdoors.
Leave a house key and your trip itinerary with a friend or family member.
Empty the refrigerator so nothing goes bad.
Unplug all electrical appliances; computers, fans, toaster ovens, etc.
Turn the thermostat down or off.
Take out the garbage.
Place your water heater on vacation mode or at a lower temperature.
Store your valuables in a safe place or get a safe deposit at your bank.
Lock all of your doors and windows.
Pre-pay your bills.
Reconfirm and check-in online with your airline.
Reconfirm all details with your travel company.
If traveling abroad, contact your mobile service provider to help you set up the cheapest plan for making calls, sending text messages, and accessing the Internet from your phone.
Make copies of your driver’s license, visa cards, insurance cards, alarm system card, and any other documents you’re taking on vacation —always make several color copies of your passport, one for you, one for your co-travelers, and one to remain at home with a family member. Also, attach extra passport photos to the color copy. This will save a ton of time if you need to go to the consulate for an emergency replacement passport.
Inform the police you’ll be away.
This is what I do whenever I travel so I thought it would be a good idea to share it with all of you.
Enjoy your travels!
