Creative Chocolate Container

I’m constantly surfing the web in search of cool ideas to share with my clients. Recently, I stumbled upon a great idea and thought it would be great for serving an elegant dessert. Alternatively, it’s also a great science experiment to do with the kids this summer. Give it a try! If you have any questions, Just Ask!

Tools needed:

  • A medium sized blown up balloon
  • Scotch tape
  • Small ceramic bowl
  • Sharp knife
  • 1 – 12 oz. bag of white and dark chocolate morsels
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced

Directions:

1) Melt the chocolates in separate bowls and let them both cool so that the balloon doesn’t pop. The popping activity comes later!

2) Roll a small piece of tape to each side of the knot on the balloon. Why? Because this will enable the balloon to stay in one piece when you pop it.

3) Place the blown-up balloon, knot side down into a ceramic bowl and secure in place with the tape.

4) Pour ¼ of the melted dark chocolate onto the balloon followed by the same amount of the white chocolate.

5) Put the chocolate-covered balloon in the fridge until it cools or sets. You’ll know when the chocolate is solid by touching it. Layer more chocolate; alternating between both colors. Let it set until almost all chocolate has been used. This forms a beautiful design. Save some white chocolate for the base of the container. Pour a final bit of white chocolate and flip the balloon over on to a piece of parchment paper. Let it set.

6) Take off the tape and take off the bowl, but keep the tape on the balloon. Now, for that experiment I was referring to.

7) It’s time to pop the balloon! Hold on to the knotted end of the balloon and pierce it with a sharp knife in the middle of the piece of tape. Voila! The balloon will pop in one piece and it won’t be blown to smithereens! Carefully pull out the popped balloon from the newly created chocolate container and fill it with sliced fresh strawberries and serve. Sumptuous!
