Dining in the City that Never Sleeps

I recently took a fabulous trip to New York City and discovered three new (to me!) restaurants to share with you. It wasn’t easy getting reservations at some of these spots, but their tasty menus made it worth it!

The Grill

As for most upscale NYC restaurants, you can (and should) book a reservation one month ahead to the day of your suggested date. The Grill is no exception. In fact, they only take email reservations starting at 9am EST on weekdays and at 10am EST on weekends. No reservations may be booked over the phone. It’s just the NYC way. That being said, I suggest having your hotel concierge assist with reservations as they might have more clout. The Grill is located Midtown in the Seagram Building, which used to be where the Four Seasons restaurant was situated. It’s called The Grill because they use the grill for many of their dishes. Makes sense, right? ha! Get ready for a lot of salt and butter as they’re used in many of the dishes. And if you love meat, this is the chophouse for you! What I truly admired was the enormous and gorgeous sculpture of metal rods that hangs over the iconic square bar. It’s absolutely eye catching and I hope sculpturist Richard Lippold was given a standing ovation. If you can’t get a dinner reservation, simply have a glass of Billecart-Salmon at the bar. It’s worth a visit!

Le CouCou

Fine French cuisine at its’ best. The white tablecloths on the table, the staff at your beck and call and the open kitchen with the chef’s wearing their toques was a special treat.

If you’re a French foodie, then this is the place for you. They have pigeon, fois gras served in several ways, rabbit and even beef cheek. The leeks with hazelnuts were a perfect start to our main meal and we were sad to have not had room for dessert. But I did have room for a Calvados cocktail which brought me back to my Normandy days. Impeccable!

Fig & Olive

This is a great lunch or dinner spot in the Meatpacking District. The Hamachi Crudo was fresh and delicious and the burger was quite delectable, as well. This isn’t quite fine dining, but it’s an elegant place to catch up with old friends and family. Tip: a lunch reservation isn’t as difficult to obtain.
