Fancy Filet Marinade

The 2015 holidays are history, but I still have a lingering memory of the marinade I made for the filet mignon I prepared. I’m here to share it with you so you can prepare it a day ahead for a special meal this year. It’s fancy and fabulous!

Ingredients:
Strip of filet mignon (size depends on how many people you’ll be serving)
1 cup Tamari soy sauce (I use reduced sodium and it’s gluten-free! Or, try a natural soy sauce alternative called Bragg’s Liquid Aminos All Purpose Seasoning)
5 limes - freshly squeezed
5 garlic cloves - sliced in slivers
1/4 cup olive oil
1 Tbsp. lemon pepper
1 tsp. sea salt
1 medium size shallot - sliced

Instructions:
Salt and pepper the beef with the lemon pepper and sea salt.
Combine the soy sauce of your choice in a mixing bowl and add in the fresh lime juice and olive oil. Mix together.
Poke or slice holes in the beef and slide in a sliver of garlic. Put as much or as little garlic to your liking.
Place the sliced shallots on the bottom of a glass baking pan, put the garlic-infused beef on top of the shallots and then pour the lime juice, soy sauce and olive oil mixture all over the beef.
Tightly wrap the marinated beef with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Periodically, turn the beef to get the marinade on all sides.
On the day you’ll serve the beef, preheat an oiled broiler pan on broil.
Take the beef out of the marinade and place it on a preheated broiler pan. Place the marinade and shallots in the pan underneath broiler top.
Place the broiler pan not too close to the coils but close enough so it gets direct heat. Keep the beef under the broiler for 7-8 minutes until the top gets crispy.
Turn the beef over and broil for another 7-8 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to perfectly cook your beef. The marinade and shallots will cook while the beef is broiling.

As a side dish to this filet mignon, I suggest sautéing white onion rings with sliced mushrooms adding in the cooked marinade and shallots. Add additional soy sauce and garlic, if needed. Yum!

This filet of beef is excellent as leftovers, too! Try making spicy beef burritos by slicing leftover beef sautéed in olive oil, adding in your favorite salsa and veggies and folding the beef mixture into a tortilla.

Enjoy!
