I have a great friend who has just started up golf. After we played a round I realized that there were so many things that she needed in her golf bag. So, here’s a comprehensive list of what I recommend you bring with you on the golf course when you’re a newbie. Any questions? Just Ask!
Golf Clubs
Seems obvious, right? Ha! I suggest taking a lesson and having the pro figure out by using the Trackman how far you hit with each club. You can keep the yardages per club on a small card kept in your bag for easy access.
Golf Club Covers
Be creative and personalize them. Choose various colors and designs — the sky is the limit! For personalizations, I suggest Stitch.
This fancy tool will assist you with how far away you are from the pin or to the front of the green or wherever you need to know the distance. Then you can choose your club appropriately with help of your yardages card.
This strand of beads is for beginners who are just starting to play and need to keep track of their shots. I remember when I started with the 18-holers, my friends looked at me and said, “Robin, it’s time to get rid of those beads!” Ha!
A towel or two for cleaning your clubs and your balls. Tip: get your towel wet before your round so you can wash your clubs and ball every time you use them.
Water Bottle
Remember to stay hydrated. I also use sport hydrating tablets by Nuun .
Golf Balls
Another obvious one. Ha! Have your pro help you decide which balls are best for you. I was using too hard of balls and now that I’m using the Callaway Supersoft balls I’m crushing it! Ha!
A Mask
Have a few masks tucked in your bag just in case you need them.
Include glove options for the rain, the cold and everyday golf games. I have probably six right-handed gloves that I interchange each time I play a round.
Hand Warmers
Be prepared for those cold and rainy days. Yes, you can still play in the rain. I have the regular Hot Hands hand warmers in my bag as well as an Ocoopa hand warmer which warms up in seconds. Don’t forget to charge it!
For use on the green or to mark your ball when necessary.
Sunscreen
For those sunny days, which we have plenty of in California!
Plenty of Tees
Whether it’s a martini tee or a regular tee, decide which ones work best for you to crush the ball.
Small Tin
Fill it with Advil, Tylenol, mints, and whatever makes you feel good.
Pencil
For keeping score. Make sure it’s sharpened.
An Extra Layer
Tuck a windbreaker, lightweight zip, and/or raincoat into one of the side zippers of your bag.
Hats
Have a beanie or warm hat at the ready for those cold wintry days and an extra golf hat to avoid the summer sun.
I love my Oakley Prizm sunglasses. I don’t leave home without them.
Extra Socks
An extra pair of golf socks are great to have if your feet get wet or cold.
These are arm sleeves to keep your arms from getting too much sun.
A Small Bag
Hang it on your hillbilly or throw it in the back of the cart. It should contain the following: snacks, lip balm, blister pads/bandaids, ball markers, tees, golf balls, hair elastic, golf hat, sunglasses, masks, tissue, throat drops, travel size sunscreen and your small tin of Advil/Tylenol/mints.
I think that about sums it up. If any of you have other items that should be tucked into a golf bag, please let me know!
