Health-conscious Socializing

Summer is almost over, so it’s time to say bye-bye to chips, salsa and margaritas. But, don’t worry—it doesn’t have to be so extreme. If you can incorporate a healthy lifestyle 365 days a year, a little quac and chips with friends won’t matter.

In this week’s Report, I have a few healthy tips on how you can make sure you still get to enjoy dinner parties and events. Now, I’m not a nutritionist, but I am thoughtful about what I put into my body. So, I’d like to share my 5 healthy tips for eating and imbibing when you’re out.

  1. A smart snacking decision I make before social events is that I eat something healthy at home. Whether it’s a salad, some unsalted nuts or even some cheese, this tactic helps avoid overeating at any event.
  2. When there are passed appetizers, I steer clear from anything fried and I’ll ask the server if they have any vegetarian options. You can always choose to nibble on olives, pickles, crudités and some cheese instead.
  3. When it comes to drinks, I stick to drinking 1-2 flutes of champagne. Then, I’ll switch to sparkling water with lime.
  4. For something sweet, you can avoid the desserts and have some fruit instead. Now remember, these healthy choices should fulfill you so that you don’t go back home and binge on junk. A way to avoid that? Don’t buy junk food!
  5. Don’t eat from bread baskets. This is especially tricky at restaurants. So, if you just have to have some bread, ask if breadsticks are offered and break them into smaller pieces. Always remember, you don’t have to eat an entire piece to enjoy the taste or have a good time.
