How To Dress Fashionably On A Cold Day

This blog is dedicated to a good friend of mine who asked me what to wear when it’s cold outside without looking like the Michelin-Man. Ha! She’s one funny girl. So, here are some of my creative fashion tips and cool looks to help you get dressed in the morning and stay warm all day long…

  1. Sweet Sweater Dresses
If you’re a business professional or would like to dress business-like, a stylish cold-weather outfit would start with a warm sweater dress.
Buy one in a solid color that you can dress up with a silk scarf, tights and boots. Wear a pastel colored, simple, below the knee coat and throw on an accented neck scarf. This outfit will lighten up any dreary, cold day to seal the deal!
  2. Warm Layers
    1. First layer: A turtleneck from Gorsuch. They come in all sorts of colors and they’re fun, fashionable, warm and wonderful.
    2. Second layer: A cashmere sweater or a suede t-shirt. They’re super comfy and will keep you toasty!
    3. Third layer: The bomber jacket is back. Wear a bomber underneath a coat and go out into that blizzard and have a blast!
    4. Fourth layer: Complete your layered look with a pastel colored coat! I’m keen on this outerwear!
  3. Pretty Pants
Why not wear some wooly warm trousers paired with some fur-lined short boots and walk out into that blustery cold? You’ll feel and look mah-velous!
Or, wear a dress or skirt over a pair of pants because pants are much warmer than a pair of tights. You can also try wearing long johns or tights underneath your favorite jeans. Long johns are no longer just for ski trips anymore. Pull em’ out and put em’ on!
  4. Terrific Turtlenecks
Another cute idea is to throw on a turtleneck over a cute wool jumper. Complete the look with some short ankle boots and tights with a hooded coat that will make you shine bright against that white, glistening snow!
Since the turtleneck is the big theme today (I love turtlenecks, can you tell?), I also suggest mixing it up and wearing a sleeveless turtleneck with a pressed cotton blouse underneath. It’s classy and it will keep you snug. Don on a nice furry hat, some thermals under jeans and a pretty light-colored coat and you're good to go!
  5. A Great Pair of Boots
Splurge on some that will make you shine! Over-the-knee boots? Ankle boots? Fashionable snow boots? Get some killer boots that you won’t get sick of wearing every time there is below zero weather or a snow storm in sight.
  6. Just Belt It
Tired of your winter coat? Add a belt and show off that waist that is hidden under all of that puffy fabric. This goes for oversized sweaters, as well.
  7. Fashionable Gloves
Wear colorful gloves, not the oh-so-boring old winter black or brown ones. Find some in burgundy, purple or even dark green. You can also wear faux fur mittens to spruce up your outfit.
  8. Top It Off
Wear a warm cheetah-print hat or a fedora. Hats will help calm down any frizziness of your hair, too. But remember to buy something that you will absolutely love, because during these cold winter months you’ll need to wear a hat every day. Make it a fabulous one..or two…or three. Ha!
