National Hot Mulled Cider Day

The Fall season is my absolute favorite season of the year. As a native New Englander, it brings back such wonderful memories of apple picking, leaf peeping and hot apple cider simmering on the stove. And, since September 30th was National Hot Mulled Cider Day, it’s the perfect time to make some!

Here are a few great tips for the best hot apple cider:

Buy a big jug of apple cider at the grocery store or at a nearby farm or open air market.

Get mulling spices such as one of my favorites from Little Apple Treats , a pre-made mix of dried apples, rose, hibiscus and other spices. You can also try the small sachets of mulling spices from DAVIDsTEA . A sachet is a little bag filled with whole-leaf loose mulling spices.

Simply combine the apple cider (apple juice works just fine, as well!) with whatever mulling spices you prefer in a big pot on the stove. The stronger the taste, the more spices you add in or simply keep the spice sachet in for a longer period of time. Let it simmer for 15 minutes or throughout the day so the cider smell fills up the entire house. Strain or take out the sachet and pour into your favorite cup.

I prefer using a glass cup for hot apple cider. I also like to add cinnamon sticks to each cup or glass for that added extra special garnish. Need some festive presentation ideas? Just Ask!

For mulled wine, simmer 1 pint apple cider and mulling spices for approximately 10 minutes. Then add a bottle of Rosé and re-warm on the lowest temperature. Strain the spices and enjoy!

There’s always something very special about that aroma, which brings a smile to my face.

Stay warm!
