Robin Laub, a Life Stylist

Rhody Hair Salon Highlight

I love it when I can experience a great find in another state and share it with all of you.

My most recent beautiful find was a beauty salon in Rhody or…Rhode Island! And, it’s no ordinary beauty salon—it’s a big one in an old mill in Cumberland.

I was attending a wedding, so of course I had to get my hair and make-up all dolled up. I asked the local bride-to-be where she recommended and she said try M.A.W Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio. I booked my services months before the wedding and the owner opened early specially for my crew! Great service!

There was so much to love right when I stepped into this grand space. (Good thing the owner gave us directions on how to locate them in this gigantic mill because it was like a maze!) There were 6-7 hairstylists chairs, couches for lounging, a room for photography if you wanted to get bridal or boudoir photos taken (Hmmm…at my age can I still get those photos taken? Ah, yea!!!) and there was jewelry displayed if you wanted to do some shopping.

The make-up artists were fully-equipped with airbrushing equipment, but I had them apply my make-up the old fashioned way as I had already applied my Bobbie Brown tinted moisturizer. I didn't want any foundation caked into my fine lines and crows feet, which could make me look any older than I am. That’s just me. I like the dewey look as seen in my video.

The artists used professional lighting to make sure I didn’t leave looking like a clown and cleaned their brushes every time after each use. I was very impressed.

All the stylists truly listened to our ideas and concerns. I have to say my make-up was flawless and I loved how the owner curled and set my hair for a big do! It was exceptional. And in RI, too!!! That’s what surprised me the most! Ha!

So, for all you Rhody’s who are about to get married, are in a wedding party or a guest at a grand event, I’d get on the horn now and call M.A.W Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio today to make your reservation. I was pleasantly surprised and I’m very picky :)

Before you get your make-up done or do it yourself, I have two event-day facial tips for you:

Tip 1:

Apply Révive Purifying Clay Mask on a cleansed face. Keep it on for 10-15 minutes and then thoroughly rinse off.

Tip 2:

After cleansing, apply Goop by Juice Beauty Exfoliating Instant Facial. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse off.

Then, apply your serums and moisturizers like you normally do. This is my in-home facial routine, which I do every morning before an event. If you’d like more beauty tips or advice on spas and facialists, Just Ask me!
