Spicy Super Bowl Snacks

Okay, here we go again…it’s the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, my team is not in it this year but they’ll be back. I’m confident of that! And just because my team won’t be playing, that doesn’t sway me away from watching other amazing football teams play and make terrific snacks to munch on.

The recipe I have for you today is from a high school friend that I re-discovered this past holiday. It’s probably not the healthiest but a few of these spicy, tasty snacks won’t hurt you. They’re called Spicy Sausage Balls. But I nicknamed them pancake balls and you’ll find out why. Ha!

I’ll give you the doubled recipe for a big crowd. And if you’d like another recipe for watching the Super Bowl, check out my chili recipe in this blog. And as usual, if you need any other recipes for a super crowd, Just Ask!

Spicy Sausage Balls (aka Pancake Balls)

Ingredients

6 cups baking mix (I use Bisquick! Now, do you get the pancake association?)

2 pounds of shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese

2 pounds of spicy Italian turkey sausage in bulk

Directions

Keep the sausage at room temperature before starting this recipe.

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Either grease a baking sheet or place tin foil on it. The sausage balls are easy to peel off the tin foil in my opinion.

Get a Super mixing Bowl and combine together the Bisquick, cheese, and sausage. Roll into small balls, the size of a golf ball, not a football :) These cook quicker than bigger sausage balls.

Bake in a preheated oven until the sausage balls are no longer pink inside and are a crispy brown on the outside for at least 25-30 minutes.

Have a platter ready to place these spicy sausage balls on and have football style toothpicks for easy, hands-free noshing.

Drink your favorite beverage with these and root away!

May the BEST Team win! (We’ll get ‘em next year TB!)
