Superstitions or Traditions

Happy Friday the 13th! Or is it…Happy Friday the 13th? To be honest with you, I almost didn't post a blog today because of THIS DAY. Yes, I’ll admit it, I'm a little bit superstitious. And, yes, superstitions are probably nonsense, but I'll share with you a few of mine:

1) Wearing The Same Hairstyle In A Competition

When I competed in gymnastics (a long, long time ago!), I always wore my hair in a long braid and swirled it up attached by a gold barrette. This gave me the stability and confidence to stick my acrobatic moves. My daughter did a similar move by wearing the same teal-colored athletic pants for her Spelling Bee competitions three years in a row. Those pants were magical!

2) Wear Red To Boston Red Sox Games

Even if I can’t make the game, I always wear something red on game day to show my pride! Go Sox!

Now, let's turn these superstitions into something positive and talk traditions! I'd like to share with you some traditions that will spur fun, laughter and creative memories.

Birthdays
Decorate the birthday girl/boy’s chair with colorful streamers, beads, and a crazy crown or hat that they will have to wear year after year. Create a birthday bash box filled with birthday napkins, blowers, candles, banners, and hats. This way, when a birthday is near, you'll have all the birthday essentials right at your fingertips. Need tips on how to shop for or organize a birthday bash box? Just Ask!

Holiday Meals
Since most holidays are surrounded by food, I always make that one special meal that brings back fond memories year in and year out. For example, on the 4th of July I like to make red, white and blue kabobs made with strawberries, marshmallows and blueberries. Sounds yummy, right?

St. Patrick's Day
Make traps the night before St. Patty's Day with your kids to capture those little rascal leprechauns! Don't forget to put green dye in your milk cartons and also the toilets to let everyone know that those pesky leprechauns outwitted you! I still do this to this day and my youngest is 17! It's a fun tradition! I laugh each and every time when they pour themselves a glass of milk. And my kids say, “mommmmm!” I think you can guess who likes this tradition more. Ha!

So, yes, when it's Friday the 13th you can be superstitious or you can create a fun, positive tradition. Why not start this Sunday for Father’s Day? I’ve got tons of great ideas that I just know all the dads in your life would love. Just Ask!
