I recently had my annual check-up with my internist, Dr. Carolyn Cooper of California Pacific Medical Center. From my point of view, she’s the best in San Francisco. The amount of time she spends with me reviewing my prior year's medical history and the intellectual depth of her Q&A sessions never cease to amaze me. How she explains things so thoughtfully and with incredible aptitude is beyond me. Each and every time I walk out of her office, I am beaming! But the best part of this annual visit (after being poked and prodded!) is that her office is conveniently located near the fun and fashionable Fillmore District. There are chic boutiques, and delicious restaurants and cafes for every style and taste all along this street. One of my favorite "go-to" Fillmore District shops is Nest for its' one-of-a-kind funky finds and some French home accents. I always have to stop by Marc by Marc Jacobs for their flashy, colorful and vibrant bags. And I also like the thrift shop called, Seconds To Go!
My traditional pit stop for a bite to eat or treat is at The Grove. The menu is to die for, but I’m happiest simply ordering a non-fat cappuccino and sitting in one of their cozy couches near the fireplace admiring their wooden decor. I sip, people watch and yes, write The Report! Undoubtedly, a Bruce Springsteen song seems to always roar in the room and I'm brought back to singing every single word of it while reminiscing about The Boss! There are so many stores and restaurants to explore on this hip street, it’s worth devoting an entire day to the area. I’d love to plan a day trip for you and your friends, just ask! You’ll be surprised at all the amazing things and places you’ll find.
Once, I took a jaunt down the bustling tree-lined Fillmore street and came across Duxiana, a bed store. Another favorite memory sprung into my head as I perused the store filled with mattresses galore – the last time I was in NYC I stayed at The Greenwich Hotel in TriBeCa. (Side note: this is Robert de Niro's hotel and the library is sometimes occupied with film producers like Harvey Weinstein i.e. Silver Lining Playbook.) I remembered that the beds were one of the most comfortable I had ever slept in and I recollected that the mattresses (after inquiring with the concierge) were Duxiana's! I had been contemplating about this fantastic bed since August and finally pounced on it! I'm embarrassed to admit how long I had kept my previous mattress for, but I’m glad I made the upgrade. So a word to the wise…spring into action and change your mattress! Springtime is all about "out with the old and in with the new" - right? Right!
And while I'm advising making changes, remember to eat healthy, get massages often, stretch before working out and drink Kombucha for a probiotic push! Whether it’s exploring a great neighborhood or refreshing your home décor, health and wellness is all about taking care of yourself and enjoying things that matter most to you.
As I close this week’s Report, my heart goes out to all those injured in the Boston Marathon and their families. I am still so saddened by all of this. Remain safe and sound
