I know, I know — Zoom parties aren’t the same as having a cocktail in a cute cafe or bar. But, it is what it is right now so if you gotta Zoom, you can at least have a great cocktail in hand!
Here’s an easy, classic one to make:
The Old Cuban
Barware & Tools:
Cocktail shaker
Jigger
Muddler
Strainer
Cocktail glass
Ingredients
Juice of 1/2 lime
1 oz. simple syrup (before you buy one read this.)
6 mint leaves
1 1/2 oz. aged rum (I use Ron Zacapa XO Solera Gran Reserva Especial)
2 dashes angostura bitters
2 oz. champagne (I think you know which one I’d use, but if you don’t, use Veuve Clicquot)
Ice
Directions
1. Grab your cocktail glass and muddle the lime juice, simple syrup and mint.
2. Add the rum, bitters and ice in a shaker and shake it baby, shake it!
3. Strain into your cocktail glass, top with champagne and garnish with a mint leaf.
Fun fact: I understand that Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle in New York was where this classic cocktail was created. If you’d like more cocktail ideas for your next Zoom Cocktail Hour, Just Ask!
