Who doesn’t love a surprise? Especially a beautifully packaged one? I just love how a surprise can make a heart go pitter-patter. Kind gestures make me smile…but it’s the details that make a surprise extra special. Love that person, who gives you a surprise, for all the details.
Whether it’s your significant other, a daughter or son, your mother or father, sister or brother, dear friend or even an acquaintance – my one rule of thumb for surprising someone is if you feel it, go for it!
Here are five great examples of how to surprise someone very important in your life:
- Surprise your cobbler, dentist or hair stylist with a beautiful orchid. It’s sure to make their day. :)
- Surprise the cook of the house with a basket filled with a new peeler, a new chef brush, a new steamer basket, a new paring knife, and why not a compost container? Surprising someone with the right tools will equip any kitchen with a smile!
- Surprise your friends and family with handwritten notes adorned with customized, cute address labels that say, “With love from (your name)! By minted.com.
- Surprise the chocolate lovers with homemade chocolate covered strawberries using dark, milk and white chocolate morsels. Or, simply order them from Edible Arrangements.
- Surprise the 21 and over birthday girl or boy with a personalized bottle of Veuve Clicquot (of course!). There are these wonderfully nifty labels that just wrap around the bottle and are re-usable! Or, you could create a label of your own such as Congratulations!, Happy Anniversary!, or maybe even…will you be my Valentine? and wait for the surprise expression on their face. :)
If you’d like help planning, packaging, or setting up the perfect surprise, just ask!
I’d like to end this blog today with a manifesto near and dear to my heart:
Love this life...
is about celebrating the moment and that we're not guaranteed or owed another day and how cool it is that what we hide can actually be the fuel towards our glory and that it's not so bad being proven wrong
Love this life...
is about welcoming the blind turn and the possibility that there's no such thing as coincidence and that empathy is incredibly sexy and that it's never too late to pick up a guitar or a paintbrush or make an amend or to make a new friend
Love this life...
could be about rekindling a post flame or igniting a new one or shape shifting from a dreamer into a doer or savouring the caress of a love long gone
Love this life...
means whatever it is you want it to mean because
Love this life...
is a celebration of you and your path
Love this life...
cuz it could go at any second.
You rock.

Sealed with a lick because a kiss wouldn’t stick (someone surprised me with this saying on the flap of an envelope)!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
